TEACHING PORTFOLIO

I have extensive experience as a sessional tutor and guest lecturer in Griffith's School of Government and International Relations. My subjects include 2002GIR 'Australian Politics'; 2013GIR 'Political Leadership'; and 1102GIR 'Mechanics of Power'.

Overall student evaluations of my teaching emphasise my knowledge of and enthusiasm for the subject matter, engaging presentation style, and ability to clarify and explain difficult concepts. Students also noted that I am approachable and display a genuine care for their learning.

I take pride in giving my lessons a practical element, whether that be through conducting a deliberative democracy session or federalism experiment, or by using my dog, Daisy, as a muse for a hypothetical policy making exercise.

TEACHING EXPERIENCE

2018 - Guest Lecture

3102GIR Great Political Debates - Lecture on Democracy and Technology in the 21st Century

"Jacob was amazing, he was really good at getting discussion going... He is the best tutor I've ever had. He engaged all of us and was really respectful with what we had to contribute. He was really open to us contacting him outside class hours for assessment help which was really welcoming. He had extensive knowledge on the subject... I was extremely impressed by the way he remembered everyone's name by the second week in both of his subjects."

"He was polite, kind and compassionate. Also his dog Daisy is adorable and 110% enriched our learning."

"He did a great job making students feel connected to the tutorial programs... Jacob's feedback on assessment was encouraging, helpful, honest and fair... For me, each of these qualities made for a great member of the GIR teaching staff - a fantastic knowledge of the content, an encouraging and engaging teaching method, and instilling a legitimate desire to get to class each week!"
